Mr. Nelson - P.E.
My name is Tyler Nelson and I am the PE Teacher at Tall Oaks. I am newly married (2024) to my wife Rylie and in addition to working at Tall Oaks this year, I also coach CrossFit and manage media and marketing at Harbor Park Health & Fitness. I've run a couple of summer kids camps at the gym and having previously worked in childcare, I am super excited to work with all the students at the school.
I believe that God made our bodies to be active and I think physical education/fitness is an incredible expression of God's creative ability. It shows how he has wired us for both physical and mental challenges and given us all the tools we need to be able to succeed! I am excited to work with the students this year and bring biblical values to PE.

A note about our teachers…
At Tall Oaks Academy, we strive for excellence in all we do. We view the job of a teacher as a much more important calling than our culture views it, and we are therefore very selective in the teachers we add and keep on our teaching team. We are proud to say that our team not only all come from various teaching experiences and backgrounds, but also have education licenses, degrees, and educational leadership degrees. However, it doesn’t stop there. We also recognize that a certificate or license doesn’t actually qualify you as a teacher on it’s own and many licensed teachers are… well… not qualified.
With that said, prior to hiring our teachers, we take them through two rounds of interviews. The first round is to get to know the teachers character and personality by asking them questions in front of an interview panel. If they move to the second round of interviews, they will be put in front of students and teach a lesson for the interview panel to show their competency to teach and whether they truly have the gift.
Finally, after officially being hired, our teachers all pursue another certification by completing courses through Classical University by Classical Academic Press. These courses train teachers through classical pedagogy and content that helps them become even better teachers than they already are.
From the initial qualifications, to the interview process and continuing education expectations, you’d be hard pressed to find a more stringent and selective process for finding and retaining the best teachers around. While other schools may be looking for warm bodies, we are looking for excellence. Why? Because it matters.
Having worked with these teachers for the last year, I have never worked with a more studious staff that wants nothing more than to be the best for their students. It says a lot when lunch table conversation is filled with not only laughter, but also professional conversations about how to be better teachers. It is an absolute honor to work with such individuals and as we grow, these are the kind of individuals I am always looking for and adding to our team.
