Brad Potts

Head of School

About our Head of School

Brad has been working in education for a decade, and has worked as a teacher in the classroom, as well as in student management as a dean of students. While in the classroom, Brad taught at the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade levels at various local public schools. He lead various extra curricular activities including intramural sports at the younger age levels, and also worked together with other employees to lead the development of an after school community service program that taught children how to give back to their community. Through his entire time in the classroom, Brad’s highlight moments always involved building relationships with students and connecting with families. Through these highlights, he developed an understanding of education as an atmosphere that needs to involve everyone in the child’s life.

Once Brad stepped into student management, he naturally was able to continue building relationships with families. From creating incentive structures for students to phone calls and strategic planning with parents, Brad enjoyed the process of family involvement. He also helped lead and develop various school wide structural programs that were implemented in order to increase student achievement and decrease behavioral problems.

In Brad’s free time, he mostly enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is married to his lovely wife, Kelly, and they have three young children named Vivianne, Graham, and Hazel. The Potts family loves to get outside as much as possible and enjoy God’s creation, and also love to dance to all kinds of music together. The Potts family also loves to gather on the couch and read a good story together. Feel free to ask us about some of our favorite books to read together! When not with his family or friends, Brad really loves to spend time exercising or reading. Along with reading God’s Word, he likes to continuously explore the classics. He also continues to be a student of education, especially the development and history of education.

Educational Philosophy

Brad’s educational philosophy begins with the belief that we are all made in the image of God. Each child is a person to be given dignity, respect, and love. He believes that children, because they are in the image of God, are naturally curious about God’s world. Therefore, it is not the job of educators to entertain children, but to facilitate and guide the natural curiosity of every student. He believes all students truly desire and love to learn new things about the world and education is about cutting with the grain of a child’s interest. If this is done properly, children truly begin to love learning, even when learning is challenging and strenuous.

The end aim of any curriculum program is to be focused on preparing students for all of life, not just a vocation or job. Brad believes we shouldn’t be asking a child what they want to be when they grow up, but rather what kind of person they want to be. Unfortunately, modern education has not kept up with the demand for people who are prepared for everything life has to throw at them. College and career readiness is a common phrase heard in certainly all public schools, and even most Christian schools as well. While this aim sounds nice, the aim is too low. Children end up not really being prepared for college or career, and they certainly don’t end up being prepared for life. If they’re lucky, children end up going on and being OK in the workplace, but soon find that they don’t have any idea how to make life’s biggest decisions and answer life’s most important questions about reality, purpose, truth, and eternity.

Out of all this, Brad believes education is for…

  1. Training children to love learning

  2. Training children to synthesize all knowledge to make wise decisions in all of life.

  3. Training children to point all things back to their Creator.

  4. Developing individuals who can think freely and not be enslaved to “every wind of doctrine.”
