Lower School (K-6)

In the classical tradition, sometimes the lower grades are referred to as the grammar stage because children at this age are developmentally equipped to imitate and memorize (and love to do so!). While this is true, we choose not to call it the grammar stage because even though grammar is a major emphasis, we do not ignore all of the other liberal arts at this stage. Students at this age will still engage in all of the other 6 liberal arts, and start getting introduced to things like logic and rhetoric. They will also certainly engage in the mathematical arts of the quadrivium as well.

At these ages, students will engage in the following classes:

  1. Latin

  2. Spelling

  3. Grammar

  4. Literature

  5. Math

  6. Science

  7. Composition

  8. Bible

  9. History
